Were there back-to-back houses in Starkey Lane ? One of our regular correspondents, Mandy Wass, has been looking into her family's life in Farnhill and has asked us to confirm a theory she has about some of the houses they lived in. Here's what Mandy wrote: I have found my great aunt Eva Webb (nee Wass) on the electoral register, in 1929, living at 48 Starkey Lane. When I was young I lived at number 56 and my grandma used to say that Eva lived above where I lived. The only conclusion I can come to is that the four (now three) even-numbered houses on the right going up Starkey Lane all had a house at the back, and that 48 would have been above 56 - at the rear. If you have any information on the old houses up there I would love to know. Can anyone help ? Were they, perhaps, up-and-over houses as used to be the case with those in Kitson's Row ? That would account for someone "living above" a family, but in a separate dwelling. Please send your thoughts to history@farnhill.co.uk.
